I've been making adult websites for women since 2000. In that time I've done my best to offer erotic material that suited female tastes.
I've also encountered the suggestion that there's no such thing as "porn for women" as women are so varied in their tastes that you can't say it's any one thing. Therefore, the critics said, I shouldn't go around saying that what I offer is "porn for women" because I'm being stereotypical.
While I realise that women are indeed very different when it comes to what turns them on, I refuse to accept that there shouldn't be a genre called "porn for women." The reason is that, right now, 99% of all adult material is made for men and depicts male fantasy. This means that the word "porn" itself essentially refers to adult content made for a male audience.
How, then, to refer to the content that is made for women? Well, there's this handy little phrase, you see...
For me, the phrase "porn for women" has come to mean a space for women to enjoy erotic material - it's an acknowledgement. It's also a perfectly reasonable moniker for describing adult material designed specifically for women.
Indeed, I have three basic requirements in order for something to be called "porn for women:
1. It must acknowledge that females are the main audience
2. It must depict a woman's point of view and a woman's experience of sex.
3. It must give primacy to female pleasure
It's interesting to note that the majority of "couples movies" churned out by major porn studios do not meet these criteria.
There are, however, a number of movies and adult sites that fit the bill perfectly. Check the sidebar for my recommendations.
